What is Hopstone?

Hopstone is a free puzzle game for your browser. It is built around one move from classic board games like checkers and Halma: a stone hops over a neighbor into the empty field behind it, and the stone it jumped over is removed.

On Hopstone's 8 × 8 board you can hop in all eight directions, and your stone stays selected after every hop. Find a route, keep hopping, and a single turn becomes a chain – each hop worth more than the last.

Three ways to play

Time Attack

The arcade mode. New stones keep arriving while you clear the board with chains. Your score takes you through stages that unlock special stones such as bombs, builders, hourglasses and rainbows. When the board is full, the run ends.

Adventure

50 puzzle levels in 10 chapters, without a timer. Leave exactly one stone in as few moves as possible and earn bronze, silver or gold. Every level is the same for every player and guaranteed solvable.

Tutorial

A guided introduction that explains every rule step by step, from the first hop to special stones.

How scoring works

The first hop of a chain is worth 10 points, the second 30, the third 60, the fourth 100. Five hops in one chain earn 350 points; five separate hops earn 50. Jumping over a stone of your own color scores one step higher.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and nothing to download. Your best score, awards and Adventure progress are saved in your browser on this device.

Does it cost anything?

No. Hopstone is free and financed by advertising. There are no purchases.
